A hair mannequin with a nine-story braid will peek out of my salon in this preserved grain elevator, renovated into office space on the Erie Canal. All concrete, and once filled with wheat and oats, the tower was built in 1939, renovated in 2004 and decorated in 1994.

Rachel ran to Pittsford in the 75° June sunshine, her quickest half-marathon ever. I traded in our latest compost for our annual share of super dirt at Cobb’s Hill Park, then drove out to meet her. We ate warm falafel pockets at Aladdin’s Natural Eatery by the canal, and then took a ramble through “Shoen Place.”
