To Heaven or Highland Park

July 11, 2023β€”

My friend Hope, visiting from Pittsburg (via Brooklyn), and I did not stick “I voted” stickers on Susan B. Anthony’s gravestone, per the sign. However, we did play “Sufferin’ Till Suffrage” a la Schoolhouse Rock on my phone. It’s a badass song, and I think Susan-B/Anthon-y (🎡🎢🎡🎢) would have liked it.

Then, off to Susan B. Anthony’s house! But first, I watched a tire graze a groundhog in our rear view mirror near Mt. Hope Cemetery. I left Hope with the car and AC running, and ran back with a tote bag and tablecloth. He must have made it to Highland Park by the skin of his chisel-shaped incisors, though, because the whistle pig had vanished.

As for the museum, I should have called ahead. You need reservations because there’s really only the tour. So, we visited the statue of Susan B. Anthony having tea with Frederick Douglass, presumably swapping bronze books without titles. We tried to visit Lake Ontario at Port Charlotte next, but Google Maps routed us to Port Charlotte, Florida. Hope’s ears perked up when Siri said, “Take 390 for 93 miles.”

We settled for the Erie Canal.

New Toilet at Dawn

Otherwise, Rachel and I earned a new patch for our gay lady vests by 1. going to Lowe’s at 6 am and 2. buying the toilet for our new home. (Vegan bagel sandwich by Bicycle Brothers.)
