The Resistance is Not Futile
Of the million things I learned about birds during COVID, I liked that one purpose of their song is to let the flock know how many they are. Twitter was like that for me in 2020, a dawn chorus of heartening, dissident chirps.
My wife and I lived a mile from SUNY Downstate, which was a COVID-only hospital that April. The ambulance sirens, day and night, reminded us of how dangerous Brooklyn was at 37,000 residents per square mile. We put on our N95s to go to Stop and Shop, and otherwise stayed inside.
